Our hand-blown glass jug is made from 80% recycled glass and is produced in a family business in Portugal.

Delicate bubbles adorn the simple design. To create the bubble effect, the mouth blowers sprinkle some sodium on the molten glass before shaping it. This makes each carafe unique with different bubble intensities.

The jug can be cleaned in the dishwasher. A small and a large drinking glass complete the glass collection.

Our glasses are made from 80% recycled glass. They are mouth-blown and then hot-ground by hand in a manufactory in Portugal, which gives them that little round and rustic edge at the top. To create the bubble effect, the mouth blowers sprinkle some powder (sodium) on the molten glass before giving them their shape. As this is a genuine handmade product, the quantity, size and placement of the bubbles are absolutely unique from piece to piece.

MANUFACTURE - WHERE IS THE onomao GLASS MADE?

The family manufactory where onomao glasses are made by glassblowers is located in Portugal in the rural region of Marinha Grande and Alcobaça, a region with a glassmaking tradition dating back more than 250 years. The family business has existed since 1987 and has focused on mouth-blown glass, among other things.

The glass manufactory is ecologically oriented and has a quality system that takes sustainable issues into account. They are constantly trying to innovate their production process and work increasingly with recycled raw materials. The manufactory currently has around 400 solar panels on its roof, which provide most of the energy it needs.

The family manufactory has been passing on its knowledge for generations - the craft has been part of the family history since before the company was founded.

GLASS - WHERE IT COMES FROM AND WHAT IT DOES TO US

The oldest man-made glass probably dates back to around 3500 BC from the Near East. Glass was produced as a by-product of glazes.

From that moment on, mankind was fascinated by this form of production. The fascination with this stable and transparent material continues to this day.

We associate purity, joy, refreshment, aesthetics and much more with glass. They are part of our everyday lives and adorn billions of display cabinets, kitchen cupboards and dining tables around the world. They are tossed into the air at major festivities such as weddings, New Year's Eve celebrations or birthdays and faces with beams of joy gaze at them with enthusiasm. How high is the proportion of recycled glass?

The glasses are made from 80% recycled glass. Unfortunately, the use of 100% recycled glass is currently not possible in Portugal, as the recycling process works differently there than in Germany.

The glasses are mouth-blown in a family-run factory in the Marinha Grande region. The region in the north of Portugal is known for its work with glass.
